All J9's K9s staff members continue their education by regularly attending dog training and behavior seminars, and belong to the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (a nationwide organization that you can contact for referrals if you're not lucky enough to live nearby and attend our classes.) Janine Pierce, CPDT-KA is the owner and founder of J9's K9s Dog Training, Inc. She's an accomplished competitor in performance dog sports and has been training dogs professionally for over 20 years. Her innovative programs have helped countless dogs suffering from behavior problems, including severe phobias and aggression. Janine is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, a member of the Pet Professional Guild and an AKC Approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. She's served on the boards of several training organizations and has studied with many well known trainers over the years, both here and in the U.K. Her appearances include: speaking at conferences for national veterinary and rescue associations, being featured in and writing articles for national publications, appearances on Animal Planet's "It's Me Or The Dog" with Victoria Stillwell, starring in a film entitled "Train Your Dog", sharing canine wisdom on the Fine Living Channel and more. Currently you can see her on CBS's nationally syndicated television show, "Dog Tales". Stephanie Colman discovered her passion for training dogs over 10 years ago at J9's K9s. Her creative talents have been responsible for many of our innovative classes such as the "Dog Training Flash Mob" and "Camp Waggin’ Tails" weekend training adventures (held in both the Central California Coast and Big Bear Lake). She shares her life with her Whippet "Zoie" and Golden Retriever "Quiz", and has successfully competed in more than seven different types of dog sports, earning 34 titles to date! Stephanie was the featured trainer for KNBC’s “Dog Bites,” and she and her dogs can be seen in “The Original Dog Whisperer DVD" with Paul Owens. Stephanie holds a B.A. in Journalism and Public Relations from California State University, Northridge and is a regular contributor to The Whole Dog Journal, APDT Chronicle of the Dog, and many other well-known publications. Alissa Clark, CPDT-KA has been instructing at J9's K9s for since 2008. She graduated Moorpark College's EATM program, earning her AS degrees in exotic animal training and behavioral management. She's trained animal actors for a number of movies, including "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", and has worked at a variety of international exotic training facilities. Alissa spends much of her time helping her husband, Michael, with his thriving Equine Veterinarian Hospital in Somis, and enjoys fostering youngsters of many species both exotic and domestic that her Siberian Husky "Londyn" happily befriends. Hudson Shock has been with J9's K9's since 2010. He's an AKC Approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, and has trained dogs and other animals for television, movies and commercials, in addition to companion dogs and those in shelters. Hudson and his wife Molly's dogs, "Trooper" and "BeBop" have had on screen parts in both television and film - most recently “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and “Chihuahua: The Movie.” (Their newest addition to the pack, "Derby", has yet to earn her first paycheck.) Penny Scott-Fox, NACSW Certified K9 Nose Work Instructor, is one of the original seven founding instructors (CNWI) who helped popularize the activity and sport of K9 Nose Work in Southern California, and is a Fellow of the Pet Behavior Institute in Durham, England. She is a NACSW Appointed ORT Certifying Official and an AKC Approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. She actively competes in Agility as well as at the top levels of Nose Work. Penny has also lectured around the country for Emily Weiss Consulting on the SAFER behavior assessment for dogs in animal shelters, and worked for the Pasadena Humane Society for twelve years. She has extensive experience training shelter dogs and evaluating their behaviors, and has developed many programs for dogs and cats in shelter and rescue environments. Her successful techniques have been covered by media outlets around the world, including the Discovery Channel, CNN, Fox, French television, Japanese radio, the Los Angeles Times, and People magazine of Australia. Penny lives with her husband, David, son and fellow dog enthusiast, Scott, and their dogs: Flat Coated Retriever, “Turner”, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, “Blaze”, and German Shepherd Mix, “Venice”. Ramona Audette, NACSW Certified K9 Nose Work Instructor, has been teaching classes at J9’s K9s since 2010 and is another of the original seven founding instructors (CNWI) who helped popularize the activity and sport of K9 Nose Work in Southern California. Ramona became hooked on dog training in 1988 as a puppy raiser and subsequently, a staff trainer for Guide Dogs of America. She is a NACSW Appointed ORT Judge and Certifying Official, an AKC Obedience Trial Steward and an AKC Approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. Sue Blackburn has been training dogs at J9’s K9s since 2006. She’s dabbled in a number of canine related activities - her favorites are Agility and Splash Dogs. Mother of four, Sue shares her home with her husband, Don, “Buddy”, a Labrador/Rottweiler mix and “Tatum", a Flat Coated Retriever. When she’s not training dogs, Sue works with brand new mothers as a maternity nurse in a nearby hospital, which makes her particularly good at reassuring stressed new dog parents! Dianna Buck, CPDT-KA has two great passions: dogs and acting. A Certified Professional Dog Trainer, she has been training dogs for movie and television production since 1998 and has been with J9’s K9s for over 7 years. Dianna has also worked for the Pasadena Humane Society’s Behavior Department and X-Plorer Dog Solutions in Northern Italy, and is a certified SAFER Evaluator. In addition to juggling dog training and her prolific acting career, Dianna and her husband, Scott, are always busy with their two adorable boys, Hank and Gus, their Standard and Miniature Poodles, “Zara” and “Rudik” and their talkative African Grey Parrot, “Hero”. Ann Hills, Ph.D. has been training with J9's K9s for over 6 years. She competes at the top levels of Agility, Herding and Obedience with her Border Collies, "Trooper" and "Trace" and has earned multiple High In Trial awards in all three venues. Her Agility resume includes extensive experience in AKC, USDAA, ASCA and NADAC sanctioned competitions; after many years of cajoling she has finally agreed to teach Agility classes for us (starting in January of 2012). Ann is an Associate Professor and Chair at the University of La Verne and holds a black belt in Karate too - we're so excited to have her on board! Jennifer Voogt has been with J9's K9s for over 7 years, starting out as an Assistant Trainer and now working as the Office Manager and Website Administrator. She shares her life with her husband, Matt, and their two All Americans "Tasha" and "Skipper." Jennifer has competed extensively in Agility, and although Tasha is now retired (with multiple titles to her name), Skipper is in training to be her next Agility All Star. Jennifer is also expecting a new human addition to the family in July of 2011, bringing one more dog enthusiast into the world.
